Yes — this is one of the things we do best. At The Pet Bowtique, we specialize in grooming anxious, reactive, and behaviorally challenging pets, including dogs and cats who have struggled or been turned away at other salons. Our approach is built on patience, gentle handling, and earning each pet's trust before we ever pick up a pair of scissors. We use lavender oil aromatherapy to create a calming environment and take our time so your pet never feels rushed or overwhelmed. If your dog or cat has had a difficult experience in the past, we want to hear about it — that history helps us prepare and give them the care they deserve.
We hear this more than you might expect, and the answer is yes. Pets that bite, snap, shut down, or become extremely stressed during grooming are not "bad" pets — they are anxious pets who need a different kind of groomer. The Pet Bowtique was built with exactly these animals in mind. We move at their pace, use calming techniques, and focus on building genuine trust over time. We encourage you to call us at 843-580-1961 before your first appointment so we can talk through your pet's history and plan accordingly.
Your first visit is about getting acquainted as much as it is about grooming. We take time to meet your pet, let them settle into the space, and learn what makes them comfortable. Before we begin, we will talk with you about their health history, any sensitivities or behavioral concerns, and what you would like to achieve with the groom. We keep kennel time to a minimum so your pet spends as little time waiting as possible. By the end of the appointment, you should feel confident about what was done and why — and your pet should look great.
For most dogs, professional grooming every four to eight weeks keeps their coat, skin, and nails in good condition. Short-haired breeds can often go longer between visits, while dogs with continuously growing coats — such as Doodles, Poodles, Shih Tzus, and similar breeds — typically need grooming every four to six weeks to prevent matting. Cats, while more self-sufficient, benefit from professional grooming two to four times per year, and more often if they are long-haired or prone to shedding and matting. If you are not sure how often is right for your specific pet, just ask — we are happy to recommend a schedule during your visit.
Yes. Nail trimming is available as a standalone service at The Pet Bowtique. If your dog or cat just needs a quick nail trim in Beaufort, SC without a full bath or groom, we can accommodate that. Regular nail trims prevent discomfort, joint strain, and injury for your pet, and they take only a few minutes in the right hands. Call us at 843-580-1961 or book online at thepetbowtique.pet to schedule.
Yes. We use lavender oil aromatherapy throughout the salon to create a naturally calming atmosphere for every pet. Beyond aromatherapy, our whole approach is built around reducing stress rather than powering through it. We work slowly and gently, read each pet's body language carefully, and never force an animal into a position or experience that causes them distress. For pets with significant anxiety, we encourage owners to share as much background as possible before the appointment so we can tailor the experience accordingly.
Yes, The Pet Bowtique grooms cats as well as dogs. Cat grooming requires a different skill set and a great deal of patience, and we are experienced in handling cats who may be anxious or reluctant. Services for cats include bathing, coat trimming, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and more. If your cat has never been professionally groomed or has had a stressful experience in the past, we encourage you to call us first so we can plan the visit thoughtfully.
Yes, The Pet Bowtique offers red and infrared light therapy as an add-on service — one of the few grooming salons in the Beaufort area to do so. This non-invasive treatment uses specific wavelengths of light to support pain relief, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and promote healthier skin and coat. It is particularly beneficial for senior pets, dogs and cats with arthritis or joint stiffness, pets recovering from injury or surgery, and animals with skin conditions. Sessions are gentle and relaxing — most pets tolerate them very well. If you are curious whether light therapy is a good fit for your pet, we are happy to talk through the benefits at your next appointment.
Appointments at The Pet Bowtique can be booked directly online at thepetbowtique.pet. You can also call us at 843-580-1961 to speak with someone and schedule over the phone. We recommend booking in advance, especially if your pet has special needs or a complex coat type, to ensure we have adequate time set aside for them.
What sets us apart is the combination of specialized expertise, genuine compassion, and services you simply will not find at most grooming salons. We specialize in pets with anxiety, behavioral challenges, and difficult grooming histories — animals that many groomers are not equipped to handle well. We minimize kennel time, use lavender oil aromatherapy, and work at your pet's pace rather than a production schedule. We also offer red and infrared light therapy, a therapeutic add-on that supports pain relief, reduced inflammation, and healthier skin and coat. We have a 4.5-star rating and are 100% recommended on Facebook, but what we are most proud of is the trust pet owners place in us, often after years of frustrating experiences elsewhere. If you are looking for a groomer in Beaufort, SC who will treat your pet like family, we would love to meet them.
